More than a game: Auctux and Les Cavaliers, building a culture of deep thinking in Bukavu

A chessboard offers something rare: a reason to slow down, look closely and think before acting. Every move asks a question. Every decision has consequences. For us at Auctux, that is much more than a game. It is a way to make room for the kind of thinking we want to encourage in the young people of Bukavu.

That is why we are proud to partner with Les Cavaliers. Together, we are bringing people around the board—and putting our belief in youth, curiosity and thoughtful competition into practice.

Four tournaments, and a commitment that continues

At the time of writing, we have organized four tournaments with Les Cavaliers. They have generally taken place once per trimester. This is the rhythm we have followed so far, rather than a promise of a fixed calendar. What matters is making these encounters possible and continuing to support them within our means.

A tournament is not only the matches on the day. It is also the work of making a place available, arranging the space and preparing the event. Auctux contributes space and helps with the setup and practical organization wherever we can. We want the players to have somewhere to gather, concentrate and take their games seriously.

Prizes that recognize the effort

We also provide prizes. They are a tangible way to recognize the effort players bring to the board: the preparation, the concentration and the willingness to compete. For us, celebrating that effort belongs alongside providing the space and helping the event take shape.

Why a technology company stands beside a chess club

We build software, software-driven hardware and games. But the values behind that work do not stop at a screen. A good idea needs curiosity. A difficult problem needs patience. A useful solution needs someone willing to look beyond the first answer. These are habits worth nurturing, whether someone is writing code or considering their next move.

We do not see a chess tournament as a shortcut to becoming a programmer, or as a promise about anyone’s future. We see it as a meaningful place to practise deep thinking: to weigh possibilities, make a decision, learn from a mistake and respect the person across the table. That is reason enough to support it.

We want to build technology—and help create the conditions in which young minds can grow.

Rooted in Bukavu, open to what comes next

Our commitment to youth and innovation in DR Congo is not only something we say on a page. It also lives in the resources we share, the events we help prepare and the partnerships we choose to sustain. Supporting Les Cavaliers is one way we put that commitment into action, here in Bukavu.

We are happy to walk alongside Les Cavaliers. Four tournaments are already part of that story. What comes next should carry the same spirit: thoughtful play, practical support and a community that gives young people room to think deeply.
